Dear Warren,
I just wanted to thank you for the wonderful two days I spent studying with you at Tree-Haven.
The one-to-one experience proved to be very educational and I feel I gained a lot of knowledge and insight to carry on beautiful forests and Saikei on my own.
I also enjoyed immensely the possibility of knowing you at a personal level, hear about your life and your past experiences as well as your philosophy on Bonsai and life.
I look forward to visiting you again in the near future. |

Almost 30 years ago I stumbled upon a Bonsai exhibit
in a shopping mall. I was mesmerized.
Associated with the exhibit was a table announcing a Bonsai school
owned and directed by E. Felton Jones. I did not know at the time
that Felton Jones is regarded as one of the best Bonsai teachers
/ masters in the Southeast. I took Felton's classes, joined his
study group and had him at my house many times for private sessions.
Felton had a huge impact on my life and my hobby. Then E. Felton
Jones left Atlanta creating a big void. I formed my own study group.
We tried various teachers and lectures. But it was never the same
until we met Warren Hill.
There are 9 people in my study group. Warren meets with us 4 to
5 times a year. Our workshops are the best Bonsai fun I have ever
had. We learn a lot. Our collections have improved dramatically.
At the end of our workshops we go home exhausted but it is a happy
exhaustion based on feelings of accomplishment. I have taken a number
of workshops over the years and never came away with this level
of satisfaction. We are extremely happy to have this relationship
with Warren Hill.
How lucky can one man get by having worked with E. Felton Jones
and now Warren Hill?

For more than 30 years I have been collecting and
studying plants and trees, especially conifers and Japanese Maples.
I have attended numerous workshops, classes and lectures in horticulture
and Bonsai in addition to becoming a Master Gardener. In all my
endeavors I have yet to find a more reliable and accessible source
and resource of sound horticulture principles, especially as it
relates to Bonsai, than I have with you at Tree-Haven.
I feel most fortunate in making your acquaintance.
By first attending your valuable workshops and classes in Bonsai
and later apprenticing under your guidance, I have been able to
advance at an accelerated rate. Your expertise in tree design, display
and horticulture are priceless to me.
Although recently new to the Art of Bonsai, during
my first show at the Western North Carolina Arboretum, one of my
trees won the People's Choice, Best in Show. I believe this would
not have happened without your help. I look forward to working with
you and watching my trees grow and mature for years to come.

I have been lucky to have had the opportunity to
study Bonsai under the guidance and teaching of Warren Hill at Tree-Haven.
His classes are an in-depth study of Bonsai starting
with the origin of Bonsai to the present day. The subject matter
in the classes cover the different styles, shaping, training and
pruning to name a few items plus much, much more.
Warren has a vast knowledge and many years of experience
with Bonsai and is always willing to help you with your tree. His
credentials are very impressive. He also has a wonderful collection
of his own and this has inspired me to start my own collection so
I can enjoy the beauty of Bonsai.
I hope to continue studying the Art of Bonsai under
Warren's guidance.

I have been working with Warren Hill in a study
group for the past couple of years and have found him to be a very
good teacher. Warren has a wonderful sense of style and knows all
aspects of Bonsai, including horticulture, soils and the use of
pesticides and fungicides. Warren is very easy to work with.
My wife and I have visited Warren and Sharon at
Tree-Haven and have found it to be a wonderful and relaxing venue
in which to learn. Warren and Sharon are building a great place
to study nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains.

Bjorn & Tom Bjorholm - Knoxville, Tennessee,

We are very fortunate in East Tennessee to have
one of the premier Bonsai artists/teachers in the United States
within an hour's drive of Knoxville. Warren Hill has developed a
first class Bonsai Training Facility at his home near Greeneville,
Tennessee. We have taken classes on Japanese Maples and Satsuki
Azaleas both of which Warren has mastered in his many years as a
hobbyist, student, teacher and Bonsai professional.
Not only are Mr. Hill's classes and workshops highly informative,
the annual Showing of his personal Bonsai collection in Greeneville,
TN is as well. Simply visiting Mr. Hill's display and viewing his
incredible collection leaves one with a true feeling of inspiration.
Warren is developing a Masters Series on Pines, Japanese Maples
and Satsuki Azaleas; which members of the Knoxville Bonsai Society
(KBS) are very excited about. We are benefiting greatly from Warren's
presence in East Tennessee and look Forward to many years of studying
with a true Bonsai Master.

While I have worked with several different Bonsai
Masters, Warren Hills creativity and knowledge have made his
workshops both enjoyable and rewarding.
Warrens ability to explain the rationale
for his original techniques has helped me improve my own skills
and abilities. I have worked with Warren in individual classes,
study-groups and workshops. In each of these settings, his passion
for Bonsai is infectious.
I often use my lessons from Warren when working
on my trees at home. His techniques are unique and have helped me
with my own Bonsai for years.

Jim and Peggy Snavely - Blountville, Tennessee,

I have had a longtime curiosity and interest in
Bonsai with no idea how or where to go to learn about creating a
Bonsai. By chance I learned of a Bonsai demonstration in Elizabethton,
Tennessee by Warren Hill. I attended the demonstration and was hooked.
Learning that Warren taught classes in the area, my wife Peggy and
I signed up.
We have now have been regularly taking classes
for over two years along with several special classes and workshops
concentrating on specific plants. Our Bonsai starter plants now
number over one hundred.
Warren's instruction (classroom and hands-on) through
highly individualized attention serve both beginners like us and
more advanced students.
Instruction covers everything from shaping, training
the plant, type and color of pot, media, planting, fertilizing,
pest control, aftercare and the like. In short, all the numerous
details necessary to create a Bonsai, refine and care for it over
the years.
We are both well pleased with our Bonsai
accomplishments through Warren's help.

The Kusamono workshop was terrific, but all of
your Bonsai workshops and classes are too.You have opened a wonderful
world to me these past two years. I have enjoyed learning how to
choose potential Bonsai, how to bring out the natural shape of the
tree and learning how to look at trees. You have such a good eye,
a wonderful teaching disposition, and so much knowledge! I have
enjoyed learning how to create Bonsai, but most of all, I have enjoyed
the atmosphere of peace that has come from being in your classes
and workshops.
Thanks for all you have given us and for
being such a wonderful sensei.
